Day 3 - Travel to Akureyri

Today has been a very busy day.  Very little rain, but very windy.  We started the day with the free breakfast at the hotel again, and it was the exact same thing as the last one, cereal, toast, meat, fish, veggies.

Our first real stop is at the basalt columns which were really cool.

From there we went to Stykkisholmur and climbed to the lighthouse to enjoy the view.

Kevin tried the Icelandic shark (it was nasty), and I had Puffin!

We drove on a lot of dirt highways, and saw some incredible scenery.  David, the last photo is for you!

  1. Holy Moly!

Those tires make that ¾ ton truck look small. Look at how much of the fenders and front bumper they have cut out to make them fit. I’d like to know what the turning radius is. Really need a regular double-cab pickup parked next to it for comparison.

What kind of vehicle are you driving on the dirt/gravel highways? Is traffic light enough that you can practice your rally drifting into and out of the corners?

Pictures have been great, especially the one just above the Ford, keep them coming.

  2. We need a picture of your rental car!

Looks like the stuffed puffin might have been a little dry. ;)

  3. I gasped when I read you had puffin! That picture is hilarious. I am going to have to google those columns! I need to know more! Also, I don't suppose you can translate the yellow sign with the up arrow that is above the truck?
